Oriental LiliesGrowing of Oriental Lilies was introduced at Flora in 2005 as we were sourcing new product lines to introduce to our growing portfolio. Oriental Lilies are a beautiful compliment to our Roses and a great product to suit our existing growing facilities. The selection of bulbs grown is based on flower colour, bud count, bud position, stem length, growing period and tolerance of our harsh climate conditions, especially during the summer months. We will always have a quality Mid Pink and White available throughout most of the year (except around January), with a beautiful Yellow and Hot Pink/Red from May - December (please refer to our colour selection). The ideal growing temperature is between 18-24 degrees Celsius. Due to seasonal weather conditions it is difficult for Flora to grow Lilies all year round, especially during late December and March due to extreme heat. We best optimize our glasshouse environment and produce the majority of our bulbs between March and December. To maintain a high quality Lily flower bulbs are grown under semi hydroponic conditions. The bulbs are fertilized daily through a drip irrigation system. They are grown in a specific media formulated for optimum growing conditions. After the bulb has been harvested the media is recycled and the bulb removed to decompose. By growing only single use bulbs we can plant and harvest according to market demands. All Oriental Lilies have a fragrance and great vase life. To ensure this we continually maintain good hygiene practices. Fertilizer levels are monitored regularly and clean equipment and water is used from planting through to point of sale. Once harvested, Oriental Lilies are bunched with 5 stems per bunch, this is considered the industry standard for Oriental Lilies. We also ensure our Oriental Lilies are at least 70cm tall, as this flower is great for larger & taller arrangements because of there stem length and size of flower in bloom. Pricing for Oriental Lilies is seasonal and usually based on the market demand at any given time. Oriental Lily pricing, at Flora, will usually be anywhere from $10 - $14 (excluding GST) per bunch. |
